Devlog/Lorepost 11/2/2024

In my previous devlog, I brought up the box that Sala is carrying. It looks far too contemporary to be in a game like Sala's Escape. It looks like it was made in the 1920s. Without giving out spoilers here's what you need to know: The box is 2000 years old. It is made of wood and iron. It has not exactly been kept in a "cool dry place." Not even an airtight tomb. The constant moisture has seeped into the wood and warped it barely beyond recognition. A lot of details on the box in the iron parts have been oxidized and corroded. I haven't decided, but there may even be trace amounts of mold (maybe even fungi?) covering its ancient surface.

And yes, note that there are vines emerging from the box. These vines are undead. They are entwined around whatever wicked thing is inside the box. At this time though, I don't really have any intention of making the box tie anyone up (but make no mistake, there might be mimics in the future. I mean, they're quintessential!)

If the centuries didn't rust the lock to the point of utter uselessness, then the vines portruding from it certainly did. The little side thingies can also open, they are not rusted shot. So why doesn't sala or company open it? Because whatever is in there exudes this sense of dread for the living. If you were a diligent collector of CGs for SAla's Escape, you would know that the box has only been opened by one being: the Red Mother herself.

The vines, the corroded metal, the warped disgusting wood (which may or may not be covered in mold and fungi) and the evil eminating from it means it will likely have to be carried in a sack.

When I have a concrete concept and color pallette for this, I can edit the instances of the box and then we can move on to the meat and potatoes: planning the moves and states!
